Summary

A new edition of the classic business parable that has sold more than a million copies since 2006。

Our Iceberg Is Melting
is a simple fable about doing well in an ever-changing world。 Based on the award-winning work of Harvard’s John Kotter, it is a story that has been used to help thousands of people and organizations。

The fable is about a penguin colony in Antarctica。 A group of beautiful emperor penguins live as they have for many years。 Then one curious bird discovers a potentially devastating problem threatening their home—and pretty much no one listens to him。

The characters in the story, Fred, Alice, Louis, Buddy, the Professor, and NoNo, are like people we recognize—even ourselves。 Their tale is one of resistance to change and heroic action, seemingly intractable obstacles and the most clever tactics for dealing with those obstacles。 It’s a story that is occurring in different forms all around us today—but the penguins handle the very real challenges a great deal better than most of us。

Our Iceberg Is Melting is based on pioneering work that shows how Eight Steps produce needed change in any sort of group。 It’s a story that can be enjoyed by anyone while at the same time providing invaluable guidance for a world that just keeps moving faster and faster。

Climate change or global warming is not the concern of this book, which is ranting about icebergs。 Fables are sure to entice, and it is a win-win when it is thought-provoking。 The illustrations of the penguins and their naive conversation are exquisite to witness。 If it were not for the pictures, the book might have toned down our imaginative prowess。 The witty and cutesy remarks on the book might not work for a majority as it manifests the ostentatious nature of the author。 Subtle writing, blen Climate change or global warming is not the concern of this book, which is ranting about icebergs。 Fables are sure to entice, and it is a win-win when it is thought-provoking。 The illustrations of the penguins and their naive conversation are exquisite to witness。 If it were not for the pictures, the book might have toned down our imaginative prowess。 The witty and cutesy remarks on the book might not work for a majority as it manifests the ostentatious nature of the author。 Subtle writing, blending with the flow of the story, should have worked。 Either choose 'Who Moved My Cheese' or 'Our Iceberg is Melting' as they focus on the same theme, Change。 It is inevitable to adopt changes both personally and professionally。 With a short fable, the author drives a teeny-weeny zeal to stride forward confidently。 。。。more

2。5 had to read for work, relevant, but not earth shattering。 Silly, easy read which made it sort of enjoyable given it was for work。

Change is nothing to be scared ofThis fable provides a lovely narrative expanding on a scenario that has players like all major change initiatives in an organisation rear makes it relatable and amusing。It’s also highly constructive and inventive, a good read in my book

Story and message delivered is good but it should be 50 pages max。 Made unnecessary long and that too for nothing。

A great book for me when I was 15 yrs old。

I listened to the audio book。 It was just okay and I preferred Gung Ho and Who Moved My Cheese to this book。To summarize, this book is about the change process and how to get others to accept change and how to accelerate change。 I only wish our politicians would practice the principles of this book。 1。 Create a sense of urgency 2。 Put a carefully selected group in charge of guiding the change3。 Found the sensible vision of a better future4。 Communicate that vision so others will understand and a I listened to the audio book。 It was just okay and I preferred Gung Ho and Who Moved My Cheese to this book。To summarize, this book is about the change process and how to get others to accept change and how to accelerate change。 I only wish our politicians would practice the principles of this book。 1。 Create a sense of urgency 2。 Put a carefully selected group in charge of guiding the change3。 Found the sensible vision of a better future4。 Communicate that vision so others will understand and accept it5。 Remove as many obstacles to action as is practical6。 Create some sort of success quickly 7。 Never let up until the new way of life is firmly established 8。 Ensure that the changes will not be overcome by stubborn, hard to die traditionsI have a hard time recommending this book。 。。。more

This book is a VERY quick read about change and change management。 It does make some good points: change management begins with a sense of urgency; people have to feel ownership in the process; and (not part of the official lessons) the best way to communicate the need for change is through something tangible -- show don't tell。 I'd give it 3。5 stars if I could, because it's awfully lightweight, and in the wrong hands I could see this book becoming the core of the worst professional development This book is a VERY quick read about change and change management。 It does make some good points: change management begins with a sense of urgency; people have to feel ownership in the process; and (not part of the official lessons) the best way to communicate the need for change is through something tangible -- show don't tell。 I'd give it 3。5 stars if I could, because it's awfully lightweight, and in the wrong hands I could see this book becoming the core of the worst professional development seminar ever。 。。。more

Funny and enrichmentGreat book that explains the 8 steps for change in a funny but enrichment way to be applied wherever it be。

Work read, and we have a discussion on it this week。 I thought it was cute how the penguins story corresponds to change that also happens in the business world。 The pictures were cute too。

Kay Leigh

A witty introduction to change management。 Very easy and quick to read。

Danni Strange

Really easy to read, based on Kotters 8 steps for leading change。 Written as a fable it’s easy to notice the key steps and also recognise how these problems abs situations often occur in the workplace。

Patience

Great and entertaining way to learn about business culture change。 I'll have to read it a few more times to think of all the perspectives。 Great and entertaining way to learn about business culture change。 I'll have to read it a few more times to think of all the perspectives。 。。。more

Good book, useful lessons on Change management。 Read it again after 15 years and proved to be an useful refresher to apply。
